"Music has a unique power to transport us to another time and place, evoking emotions and memories that we thought long forgotten. As a teenager, I discovered this firsthand when I first saw the cover of Prince's 'Let’s Go Crazy' single. In that moment, I was captivated by the image and felt an overwhelming desire to be a part of it, despite my own fears and insecurities.
And so began my love affair with live music. In my youth, concerts and music festivals became my escape from reality – a place where I could let go and truly be myself while surrounded by others who shared my passion for music. It was in these moments that I felt invincible, shielded from the harshness of the world outside.
Years later, as an artist, I found myself reflecting on the changes in society and how they have impacted our experiences at concerts. The constant need to capture every moment through our phones and social media has taken away from truly living in the present moment. And so, inspired by the iconic image on Prince's single cover, I created a painting that re-imagines it in 2023. Through this piece, I aim to call attention to the modern obsession with documenting everything at the expense of fully experiencing it.
My painting serves as a commentary on how technology has changed our concert experiences and begs for us to put down our devices and immerse ourselves fully in the present moment at concerts once again." - PB 2023
